  18.  This application provides interactive help when
  19. a help application is active.

  22. What this software does
  23.  
  24.  It allows the production of a range of charts
  25. from data that can be entered and edited. The
  26. program plots line graphs, stacked and grouped
  27. barcharts and piegraphs. The current
  28. implementation provides 2D display of the charts.
  29.  
  30.  A number of options for obtaining various forms
  31. of hard copy exist (saving as a !Draw file, or
  32. printing via any standard RISC-OS printer driver).

  35. Entering Data
  36.  
  37.  Clicking SELECT on the iconbar icon will open an
  38. empty edit window, into which the data may be
  39. entered. This version allows a maximum of 30 data
  40. sets, each comprising a label, and up to four
  41. numeric fields.
  42.  
  43.  Full scrolling and editing facilities are
  44. available during data entry, by means of the arrow
  45. keys. One useful key combination is
  46. CTRL+SHIFT+COPY or CTRL+X, which will delete the
  47. row of data at the cursor and close up the rest of
  48. the data.

  50.  You can insert a blank row using
  51. SHIFT+CTRL+INSERT, with the data from the current
  52. line being all moved down one row. IF ALL THE ROWS
  53. ALREADY HAVE DATA IN THEM, THE LAST ROW OF DATA
  54. WILL BE LOST.
  55.  
  56.  Function key F1 will try to turn on the help
  57. system, either Acorn !Help, or !Bubblehelp.
  58.  
  59.  Function key F3 will bring up the "save as"
  60. dialogue box, except when a chart is displayed,
  61. when the "save drawfile" box will be displayed
  62. instead.
  63.  
  64.  Function key "Print" will print the chart (if the
  65. edit window has input focus).
  66.  
  67.  Double clicking on a ChartDraw data file or
  68. dragging a data file either into the edit window,
  69. or to the iconbar icon will load the data,
  70. overwriting any data that had previously been
  71. entered.
  72.  
  73.  Besides files in ChartDraw format, files of file
  74. type text, data or CSV can be loaded by dragging
  75. into the edit window or onto the iconbar icon. In
  76. some cases, if the file does not start with the
  77. standard chartdraw header, a query window will
  78. open for confirmation before loading the file.

  80.  Data can also be passed in either direction
  81. between the ChartDraw edit window and a !edit
  82. window. Thus editing can be carried out using the
  83. !edit application if preferred. Data can be
  84. entered 'from scratch' using !edit, and then
  85. transferred to the ChartDraw application (by
  86. dragging a save icon to its edit window or its
  87. iconbar icon), as long as the ChartDraw
  88. application can recognise a valid data file.

  90.  As the chartdraw application will deal with files
  91. of comma separated ASCII data it is possible to
  92. set up other applications to produce data files of
  93. the correct form.

  97.  WARNING: All the editing is carried out on
  98. strings of characters. These strings are converted
  99. to numerical values only when the charts are
  100. drawn. The application does not check these
  101. strings for non-numerical content before it
  102. converts using the VAL function. It is up to the
  103. user to check the data entered for mis-typing etc.

  108. The Edit Window Menu
  109.  
  110. Clicking the 'menu' button in the edit window
  111. brings up the following choices.
  112.  
  113. Delete column
  114.  Following the right arrow allows any complete
  115. column of data to be deleted
  116.  
  117. Clear data
  118.  This will irretrievably clear the current data
  119. prior to the entry of new data. Chartdraw asks for
  120. confirmation before clearing the data.
  121.  
  122. Save file
  123.  Data files may be saved by dragging the save icon
  124. to a directory viewer. If the full path name is
  125. set up, then you can also click on the OK icon or
  126. press <return> to save the data.

  128.  The function key F3 can be used as a short cut
  129. for this option (unless the chart window is open,
  130. when F3 will bring up the "save drawfile" dialogue
  131. box).

  133.  It is also possible to drag the save icon to a
  134. !Edit window, or to the !Edit icon on the iconbar.
  135. The data is then transferred into !Edit.

  140. Grouped Bars
  141.  These options cause the plotting of the chosen
  142. type of chart. In the case of the piechart, a
  143. sub-menu allows you to choose between plotting a
  144. single large pie, or up to four small ones. Line
  145. graphs and grouped bargraphs also allow a similar
  146. choice of one or all of the data sets, but stacked
  147. bargraphs always uses all the data sets.
